The Juvenile Department at City Court of Houma handles all juvenile offenders for Terrebonne Parish. 2,125 charges committed by juveniles were petitioned to court in 2007.
Due to the large volume of charges and the number of new juveniles entering the court system, the Juvenile Department is the largest department at City Court of Houma, with a staff of six deputy clerks, one Juvenile Probation Officer, a Social Services Director, and a Families In Need of Services (FINS) Coordinator.
The Juvenile Department at City Court of Houma has a history of developing and helping other local agencies develop innovative programs to help juvenile offenders not only receive appropriate consequences for their actions, but learn skills to hopefully prevent further re-offending behaviors. The Juvenile Department works very closely with numerous local and state agencies to ensure appropriate services, placement, and treatment are provided.
